Modern commerce is a small retail frontend on top of a lot of backend — inventory, pricing, promotions, fulfilment, returns, tax, fraud, subscription logic. The interesting engineering lives in that backend, in how well it survives a Black Friday peak, and in how fast a merchandiser can launch a new market.
